Thanks for awakening my interest in family history are due first and foremost to my sister, Judy Pickering, who passed the genealogy bug on to me, despite my initial resistance. Then to all the people I made contact with over the internet, without whose help this site would not have been possible, in particular Jane McDonald (nee Pickering), Beverley Morling (nee Green), Rowland Pickering and Mark Pickering. Finally to those members of the previous “unconnected” generation who brought the events behind the facts to life and illustrated them with anecdotes, especially Zita Ball (nee Pickering), Barbara Pickering (nee Bullin), Henry Prince and Eileen Pickering (nee Colley). George Walker of New Zealand deserves a special mention for all the groundwork he carried out in the pre-internet days.

The photos that illustrate these pages are from the Pickering family photo collection or by the author unless otherwise stated and except where linked to an outside source.

Below is a selection of useful links in alphabetical order. The ones I found the most useful are in bold letters.
